Unda investors! Dan here, the man behind the app. I hope you had a good week investing, can I tell you a quick story?
I can’t do this without ageing myself but the year was 2001 (back when I was 35)
I got given a game called Championship Manager FOR FREE whilst I was studying for my GCSE’s. (I know, they set me up)
Long story short I became addicted **shocker**
It helped me discover a player called Ronaldo gaucho de Assis Moreira – I was like “damn.. who is this playmaker with the word ‘assist’ in his name with all of these 20’s”
He was playing at PSG in France at the time, and as a black player in France, either you dyed your hair like Sisqo or you relaxed your hair like MJ
It’s crazy to think about it, but if he didn’t go to France, he may not have had his iconic long hair down his back. (Crazy)
The is where I first experienced the legend of Ronaldinho (I call him Dinho)
The game inspired me to watch Ligue Un matches and the only way I can explain it, it felt like watching Disney’s Tarzan running through the jungle but the football player version, I’d never seen anything like it before
I told everybody I could about Ronaldinho, it’s how I started & finished my sentences, it’s how I said hi & bye… I basically used his name as a full-stop.
I’d be like “okay, see you tomorrow bro…… Dinho” I associated my name with him, cause, I stumbled upon gold & I knew once everybody else found out about him
I wanted them to remember who told them.
I had a whole year of telling people about Dinho, and when he was selected in the Brazil squad for World Cup 2002 I knew what was going to happen. I knew it.
You know what happened. The rest is history.
I walked back in school after the summer holidays, like a hero, you were right you were right. Ronaldinho is amazing.
That’s the first time I felt what it was to feel like a sole lead investor.
On March 21, Ronaldinho celebrates his 45th birthday, and the football world honours him with admiration and affection.
