Straight from Dan’s Desk: The buried feature
Hey Unda Investors!
This week I want to talk about a feature that almost made it into the app back in 2021—let’s talk shorting. Yup, you read that right. I actually toyed with the idea of creating a shorting feature on UndaRated.
The idea was that there were TWO currencies on the app UndaCoin & OvaCoin
Users could use UndaCoin to indicate that they think that a player is underrated and then they could use their OvaCoin to indicate that they believe a player is overrated!
But, after a good, long think, and honestly also reflecting all the damage that I myself perpetrated to the negative environment we have created around football on digital media.
e.g #LukakusFirstTouchWatch hashtag as an example
I just realized that the current vibe in football is already so heavy with negativity. Everyone is so ready to call players, managers, teams a flop, calling for this manager to get sacked, looking at stats websites to troll a 19 year old for not scoring in their last 4 games.
It got me wondering—why add fuel to the fire?
Here’s the deal: when I built UndaRated, my goal was to celebrate the game by shining a light on the talent, not by betting on the failures. In a world where many prefer to focus on the doom and gloom, I think we can be a positive force. So instead of making a profit off of who’s underperforming, let’s flip the narrative. Let’s put our energy behind the players who make us fall in love with the game.
HOWEVER even though I didn’t bake it into the app here’s my question to you: If you could short a player in our stock game, who would you short?

and when he scored those 2 back to back freekicks on a big night in the champions league to give Arsenal a first leg victory over REAL MADRID I banged my desk, took off my glasses and screamed DECLAN MOTHERFUCKIN’ RICE!!
I’m glad I didn’t build that feature, because all credit to him, shorting Declan could have ruined my portfolio!
